So.. the first thing we learn is that the series is set in The Year of Our Lord 2035 and the Earth from space is no longer blue and green but kinda.. mud coloured. At least the name fits now.
Something happened on August 23rd 1985 - I think they found a giant head underwater? Then something bad happens on December 22nd 2012 resulting in this 'Equatorial Winter' thing, which seems to be caused by a massive belt of green cloud wrapping the whole world like a scarf. There's another series of stills: from January 4th 2013 which I take to indicate tsunami damage, rioting in the streets on January 8th 2013 and martial law imposed by January 13th 2013. Then that wierd head thing being studied somewhere (So far this is like a mix of that scene showing the awakening of Adam from Evangelion:Death and the start of Stellvia).
